About the Author

Mathis was born and raised in Detroit Michigan. He moved to Toronto and completed his education in Broadcast Journalism. When he visited India in 2006, he instantly fell in love with the culture, the heat and the sweet mangoes. He considers India one of his favorite places in the world to visit. When he isn't traveling or writing, he reads and make videos for his YouTube Channel MattsBooks&Bites where he reviews books and food. Mathis Bailey is the author of Confused Spice, which is his first LGBT novel. The story idea came to him when he took a Creative Writing program in Toronto. He initially joined the course to improve his writing skills to do freelance work for Gulf News. He told his spouse about the story idea and was encouraged to write it, and so he did.

An awesome summer read. As to not spoil the story for you, Confused Spice is a light-hearted page turner that touches on serious situations. An easy, good read with short chapters (YAY), with each chapter alternating between characters; I was eager to find out what the other person was thinking/feeling about any given scenario throughout the story. I also enjoyed the cooking that the main characters did in the story, which also included delicious recipes (provided at the end of the book). The final chapter had me at the edge of me seat wanting more...I can hardly wait to find out what's next for Vijay and Pierre. Some of the cultural topics in this book include: Religion, Ethnic Traditions/Heritage, Sexuality.

It was interesting reading about Pierre fighting the allure of his former partner, and Vijay figuring out what he really wants out of life and not what his mother is pushing him to become. Great debut book and I look forward to more from the author, Mathis Bailey.

Confused spiced is just a awesome read, the great details and the almost sex sense between vijay and perrrie kept me reading the tease of them and their confused relationship gave light to my very own situation and where I stand this is just an awesome book to read

Confused spice had me in suspense from beginning to end, wondering what was going to happen next between Pierre and Vijay. I absolutely loved the book.

Vijay and Pierre are to very different men that reside in Canada. Pierre attends culinary classes during the night and enjoys cooking Indian cuisine when he is at home. He meets his neighbor Vijay and they hit it off. They become close friends that cook together and talk about their lives. They enjoy each other's company so much but circumstances tear them apart. Is there more to their relationship than just friendship? I enjoyed Pierre's character the most. I feel that he is a fantastic human being that likes to help their friends feel good about themselves. He is willing to stay up late to help Vijay learn how to cook. He is not pushy and respects that Vijay is trying to find himself. I recommend this book to an audience that enjoys a bit of sensuality, loves a story about complete strangers becoming best friends and an overall great story. I appreciate Mathis for giving us the opportunity to read and review his novel.-Rebeca

Confused Spice is a great read and I have enjoy every page of it, but I wasn't very happy with the ending of the book. There wasn't a conclusion and the ending was just left open. Maybe we will be getting a second book of Pierre and Vijay adventure but I do hope they end up together because at the end of the day we all want that happy ever after.

Confused Spice is a great read. Pierre and Jay were both flawed, but that's what made their story captivating. I want to know where they go after this.

I love this book, it's everything it's made out to be and more! I refer to this book very often. If you're a natural perfumer or flavorist, you NEED this book! I'm so happy that they put out a new edition/reprint(and at a decent price!), as my older copy was quite worn. If you're considering this book, don't hesitate, you will not be disappointed! I have many books in my library that pertain to the subject of botanicals, from books on essential oils , herbs, teas to perfumery, incense, and fragrant gardening, and of these books, I use this book the most for reference. When it comes to creating naturally scented crafts, this is the book you need for quick reference. It's not the only book you'll ever need, but it's one of them.

That this book has been reprinted and at an affordable price is a dream come true. Until now, all one could find were old prints at astronomical prices. The size of this soft cover book is impressive and the contents invaluable and a must have for anyone working with perfumery, regardless of level. Hopefully they will follow this with the other two: 'Perfume and Flavor Chemicals' volumes 1 and 2, also a must have and currently selling for too high a price. If you are even remotely into perfumery, get this now, don't wait until it is once again out of print!

I am not a perfumer, just interested in aromatherapy. This book was recommended for the author’s ‘excellent’ descriptions of absolutes, essential oils, etc, but that is just a miniscule part. Most of the info was quite technical it seemed to me, and not very useful for my purposes . There are some suggestions for some other oils work well together.

I was looking for a reference guide and found it in Steffen Archander's book. It is informative and well worth the expense.

The Other Blue sky is one of THE most powerful and poignant books I have ever read. Shari Ryan has once again brought me to my knees with writing that is simply superb. She takes such a sensitive and painful subject and vocalizes it perfectly. After devouring Last Words, I was desperate to know Annie's story, the one after she was born to such horror. And never did I imagine to fall so deeply in awe at how her strength would carry her throughout such a difficult life.Here is a woman who has the love of a crazy family, one who adores her completely. A husband in Fisher, who would do anything in his power to make his Annie happy. But then as her story unfolds, told beautifully in both past and present, it quickly becomes apparent that Annie has so much unresolved in both her heart and her soul. And I couldn't blame her one bit. With secrets being held about her very being finally coming to light, it's a wonder she didn't completely lose herself right then and there.Annie's journey to some semblance of peace is very complicated and extremely moving. I felt every bit of pain she did and cried many, many tears throughout. I was as thankful as she was for Fisher who could turn any difficult moment into one filled with the silliest of humor. They are truly a couple deeply in love and grateful they found each other. I could feel the utter devotion whenever they were together. And as Fisher and Annie journey through life, both embracing and accepting their difficult pasts, yet loving their time together as if nothing else mattered, there is a deep sense of despair that only Annie can seemingly conquer. This is a huge part of this book and despite it breaking my heart on a few occasions, whatever Annie thought to do or needed to do to feel whole was fully embraced by not only her loving family but by me as the reader along for this glorious ride.The Other Blue Sky is full of a unique kind of beauty that comes from deep within. Shari Ryan uses her own heritage as a springboard to what so many families after WWII experienced and how they managed to rebuild their lives despite great loss. I am forever awestruck at the way these wonderful characters continue to pull themselves up no matter how hard that might be and the rich history they have both lived and survived and still find difficult to share. I admire Annie's tenacity and that even through her hesitancy to find joy when there is great sadness, that no matter what, she perseveres.This book is masterfully-written and the myriad of emotions I experienced is unmatched. I loved that the Author portrayed Annie and her loved ones as a real family, full of sharp wit, the ever-present guilt and true adoration for one another no matter what they might be going through. After two books, I feel as if I'm part of this crazy crew and I found it very hard to let them go once that last line was read.The Other Blue Sky is exquisite and gave me an elation not often found within the pages of such a compelling book. It deserves ALL the stars!5++++++++++++ stars

When Shari first told me she's going to write a book about Annie, I was over the moon. Last Words is one of my all time favorites and I couldn't wait to have more of those special characters. Of course, she did an amazing job.Annie's story had me so emotional, it literally took my breath away more than once.All the things she's been through, all the struggles, all the insecurities about who she really is broke my heart. She's one of the strongest characters I've ever read about and I absolutely adore her.Like in Last Words - this book left a mark in me. It makes you think, it makes you feel, it makes you look at your life differently. It's not just the Holocaust, which we all agree that it was unbelievabley terrible, it's life itself after dealing with the greatest loss a person can deal with.I think God gives struggles to the person he knows would be able to deal with them. We are all blessed even when it doesn't seems like it. That's what I'm taking with me from this book. ❤

I had a hard time getting through the last couple of chapters . Mainly because of the tears in my eyes. I had to wait till I was alone to finish reading this story. As a nurse in a big city hospital and as a cna in a nursing home for years before that, I have met a few survivors and their families. They didn’t talk of their experiences , and I didn’t ask. I saw the tattoos on some. With others their family would talk. They all had at least three things in common, Grace, Dignity, and Respect for everyone. I felt the pain in this book, I also felt the grace.Thank you for this story.

This book. I didn’t think Last Words needed anything else. I loved it. It’s one of my favorite books. After reading The Other Blue Sky - it was something I didn’t know I needed until I read it. The author clearly needed this story too! It gives you all the feels. You’ll love it won’t be able to put it down.I’m a big cry baby, so you know I cried in this story too.

This was such a unique story and I have found myself thinking about it even a week after finishing it. It was more like a women’s fiction story for me which was a nice change of pace. What a history Annie had and unraveled over the years. A beautiful story that will capture your heart and make you think about long after you turn the last page!

5 BEAUTIFUL EMOTIONAL STARS!! Beautiful words again from this phenomenal author. Annie's story will be engraved on my heart forever. This story is so beautifully written with all the feels, my emotions were all over the place while reading this book. Shari J. Ryan is by far in my top 5 authors, she can write any genre and turn it into a 5 star read. I highly recommend this book for 2018.

I just finished The Other Blue Sky; it was a page Turner and so interesting! I read Last Words first; the books flowed perfectly together! These are the first two books I have read by Shari J. Ryan. I can definitely understand the sadness and sense of feeling lost that was experienced by Annie. I am sure this is an accurate portrait of how many of "the missing children" felt. These books will take you on a journey of tragedy, sadness, mercy, super natural human strength, perseverance, triumph and love. Be prepared you won't want to put these two books down!

The Other Blue Sky is one of the books I wish I could unread so I could read it again for the first time. Just like Last Words, this book gave me the feels. I absolutely loved it and high-recommend everyone to read it.
