I purchased this text for consideration in one of my intro to criminal justice classes. If you are looking for the basics and the same old same old in a CJ text, you won't be disappointed. For years criminal justice education has been changing and unfortunately this author and others like him are resistant to that change. There needs to be a more creative way to teach criminal just at the intro level than by pumping students full of facts when they cannot think for themselves. Many of us are looking for something that will enhance problem solving and original thinking. This old method of "I tell you, now tell me back" is not education. There needs to be something better than this!

This book was being used as a back up for college class to be able to mark up. We weren't sure if it was the same exact book even though the ISBN was the same as college book store because the cover picture was different. Turns out that we are renting the same textbook from school for over $80 and bought this for $12 - in GREAT condition! Totally ripped off at school. This was great purchase.

Although it is a textbook and I had to study the material... it is extremely informative and up to date highly recommended it if you want to get an A in your Criminology course.

Book was in excellent condition however i had to return it. It say "new" but it DO NOT contain access codes for Pearson Labs. if you need a text w/ access codes dont buy it unless you want to buy the access separately on top of it. If you dont need the Pearson codes it was perfect.

Great book. Has lots of examples and very illustrated and easy to read. Good for college classes.

Thinnest paper EVER. I didn't know it was possible to make sure fragile, thin paper aside from tissue paper. It's not much thicker than that. The loose leaf style is a major issue (especially given the thin paper it's printed on.) The indexes are useful to find information you're looking for.

As far as textbooks go, this one is odd. It's formatted in such a way that the pictures almost take precedent over the text. Don't get me wrong, some of the info graphics in this book are awesome, but what the crap is this one column that's about three words wide doing in a text book? Also, "Good" quality apparently means "Not completely written in and not ALL of the pages are noticeably warped"

Good book for college classes

It is hard for an author to consistently write a series of books where the storyline remains strong and consistent, and the characters remain memorable and engaging. I have followed many authors that have not been able to maintain this throughout their series. However - Lindsay Buroker shines in her talent to drive the series through to its conclusion without losing momentum or consistency. A true talent and an absolutely wonderful adventure.Jelena and her cobbled together crew face a new challenge - to pay off a debt incurred when fighting for their lives on an Alliance planet. In a desperate attempt to pay the debt and prove her worth as a captain, Jelena takes on a job as a mercenary outfit to rescue some kidnap victims. But not all is as it seems, and Jelena, Thorian and their companions are forced to balance their moral and ethical codes against the need to succeed and prosper. This book has it all - adventure, suspense, humour, drama and a hint of romance - love it!!I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Oh, my lord, I love the Fallen Empire series. Each time Lindsey writes something new, I think that it is the best series yet, but that's just me. When I started reading this spin-off series, I was uncertain about whether or not this would continue to be true.Jelena grated on me, a bit, in the first book. She is way, way too immature to be a freighter captain, and I had a hard time believing that Leonidas and Alissa would have allowed their daughter, who they risked their lives, multiple times, to save after her kidnapping, to do this. She is a 10 year old in an 18 year old body. A supremely dangerous situation. However . . . . she is getting better. And, after all, it's Thor who is the interesting character in this series. I have been dying to learn about what happened to him, and what his continuing story is. I hope that Lindsey plans on sticking with this tale. I can imagine 20 books down the line in this thread and still being fascinated enough to want more. There is so much more to say here. That being said, Lindsey Buroker is a force of nature. She has more ideas in her head than she will ever, ever, in this lifetime, be able to write down. I understand that she gets carried away with new ideas, and, I have to admit that I am gripped by them all.I'm a selfish reader. I want what I want, and I want it all. I want to know everything about everybody. I want to see all the action, all the love, all the crises, all the dilemmas. Everything. Lindsey is the kind of writer who satisfies that desire.Being a beta reader for other authors, I'm very critical about what I read. Lindsey's work is in a small universe. There are few authors who can sustain a conceit all the way through, seamlessly, without any errors of character development or continuity. Everything fits, and follows what came before. Her world building is incomparable. This is part of the draw. I've TRIED to find the cracks. But, there are none. She answers every question, (well, eventually, anyway), and her characters grow. There are no stock characters. In this new series, Lindsey has done something that is very hard to do. She depicts Jelena, the daughter of Alissa, (one of my very favorite storybook heroines), as a chip off the old block. But . . . not the block. I can easily see Alissa in Jelena, but, and this is important, she is NOT Alissa. In this second book, we can see where she leaves Alissa and Leonidas, as their daughter, and then starts becoming her own person. The relationship between Thor and Jelena is based on childhood memories, and companionship. The two of them suffered through many of the same traumatic situations, and helped each other survive. In the intervening years, being apart, each has moved on. And yet, there is a connection between them which remains. Although the story to come will likely be epic in scope politically, and will probably involve war and violence, the primary issue this early is whether or not, and how, the two kids will resume their relationship. This is what I'm most interested in. Lindsey is a manic writer. She is also very, very funny. Her dialogue has had me laughing out loud in some really inappropriate places. She is a master of the action scene. When she writes romance, or even simply about the relationship between shipmates, she draws it out forever. Or, at least it seems to take forever. In the end, this is what makes you remember those characters forever.I tend to want to avoid reviewing the really great writers, who usually get all the reviews. What's the point of reviewing someone with 1000 reviews, when you can review a new writer who needs exposure. Lindsey is somewhere in between. She's pretty famous, by now. And, she has a following that is as secure as barnacles on rock. I'm not sure she needs me. But, as a 99 year old friend of mine told me, just before he died, "Sometimes you just have to raise your hands up to the sky and scream Hallelujah!" This is me doing that.Lindsey is a great writer. Everyone should read her books. Every single one of them.

How would an eighteen year old Starseer freighter pilot pay off a huge debt, make responsible adult decisions and earn her parents trust back?Create a very small but powerful mercenary outfit and stop a war of course. However has Jelena taken on more than she and her mates can handle. Of course she has. Will this stop her trying her hardest to reach her goals. Of course not.Remember Jelena is not alone, she has handy Ostberg, super Thor, strong Maskha, mini Ostberg and loyal Alfie.I thoroughly enjoyed reading the second book in this series. The action, suspense, humour, and thrills will have me waiting impatiently for the next one.

I really enjoy Lindsay Buroker's writing style. She has realistic characters, exciting adventures, humor, and a bit of romance. However, this feels just like the Fallen Empire series. There's a cyborg/ enhanced human security officer in each, a brooding & dangerous possible love interest, a close friend who banters back & forth with the captain, and a captain who has an uncanny knack for finding trouble as she tries to do good. The characters from each series could almost switch places and the story would still make sense. Even with all that, I'll still read the series. I'm invested and I'd like to see where the characters end up.

The first book in this series addressed more predictable issues of growing up: reuniting with old friends and learning to know each other again, setting out on one's own only to fall on one's face a few times, etc. Angle of Truth moves past that and onto the more pressing issues of growing up... paying for those mistakes and trying to prove oneself to one's parents. The crew is more comfortable with each other in this book, which makes it so much more fun to read, especially as they have to work together while figuring out which side of this conflict they should truly be fighting for.For those of you jumping in from Fallen Empire who are fans of Thorian, these books will be all the feels. I'd hope those of you who aren't familiar with Fallen Empire would take Thorian under their emotional wings as well, this dude just needs some love. (And also, if you haven't read Fallen Empire, why not? Go! Read!)

Title says it all. God, I love this book series. It's my favorite thing to reread after my meory has faded enough to make it a new-ish experience again. Please finish up with Jelena and Thor! They're the absolute best. I have no idea why I relate to their coupling so much, but I do. The way their personalities compliment each other- Thor's strength of mind and Jelena's strength of heart- and the way they share intimacy with each other. Epecially Thor with Jelena, because he really doesn't trust anyone else the way he trusts and loves her. They're still figuring things out in life. I'd really like to see where they progress!Anyways, sending love for your stories- always! And hope for more in the future!
