About the Author

Marjorie Martinelli is coauthor - with Kristine Mraz - of Smarter Charts and the new Smarter Charts for Math, Science, and Social Studies. Their popular blog chartchums keeps teachers in touch with ongoing and relevant classroom issues and ways to use charts as a support. Chartchums is also on Facebook and on Twitter @chartchums! While in schools as consultants with the Reading and Writing Project, the teachers they've worked with have begged them to write a how-to book about the amazing charts they introduce to consulting classrooms. Smarter Charts was that guide, and Smarter Charts for Math, Science, and Social Studies extends that work across the teaching day. She is a staff developer at the Reading and Writing Project where for the past ten years she has lead numerous leadership groups and presented at many national and international educational conferences. Prior to joining the Reading and Writing Project, Marjorie was a New York City public school teacher, a teacher-researcher, and an adjunct teacher at Bank Street College of Education. Got these in 2017 for our 5 and 8 year old kiddos (now 6 & 9). We bring these with us often for long car rides or for places where we need a back-up activity for the kids. These are great and have been standing the test of time.Would highly recommend.

Part of my child's homework is spending time understanding math facts. He was getting bored with the same addition and subtraction problems so we tried this. Makes them think and is a very useful tool at teaching all kinds of math facts. I hope they come out with many more of these and for different subjects.

How many 1st graders do you know that know how to divied and how to do factions?!?! Because I dont know any!! Not happy. This wont be usable till the end of 2nd grade going on 3rd grade.. And by then they wont want to use it because it says its for 1st graders.

My 6 year old and I have so much fun with these brain quest cards! They are so portable! We do them when we are waiting in car pool in the morning - waiting in a dr. office - really anywhere there is waiting :) or you can think of it this way - anywhere they are pulling out their DSI's - we have a rule of no "gaming" during the school week - so when I need them to do something else- here is that something else - there is also general knowledge cards - and reading - we do them all - and it is fun fun fun - makes them see the instant gratification in getting something right - not too hard either - but not so easy that its boring - a great product all around!!

my kids love it. they think it's a game and we do it every night. little do they know they are learning at the same time. highly recommend.

Lots of good questions that challenge the child. Definitely helps you know where your child needs improvement and what concepts you can help him or her focus on!

I am so glad I decided to get the Brain Quest Math. My daughter thinks of using this as more of a game instead of work so it is fun and motivating.

This is really fun to take on trips and to get your little one's mind working. It's great because kids think it's a game hen they are actually learning.
