When I bought this book, I hadn't realized it was written when Queen Victoria was still living. Evidently the author hoped the Queen would actually read her book and perhaps comment on it because she certainly filled it with high praises for her royal character and scarcely any criticism. The quaint manner of this book transports the modern reader back to a different world, perhaps unrealistically portrayed but still charming. Well recommended to anyone who would like a peek into the past.
I had always read that Queen Victoria was a very proper, sober, strait-laced woman, and that she disliked children. This book is a pleasant surprise, showing that she was a delightful, intelligent, fun-loving person, who enjoyed periods of time living very simply. I enjoyed knowing that about her.
This is going along nicely with the PBS presentation of Victoria.
I might as well admit that I am an English history "Junkie". This book was a good read and I would recommend it for others who love English history as much as I do.
Victoria's training included much history both worldwide and within her family to learn from example. She continued this forward by setting a good example for her children and her people. It would be refreshing of more current world leaders used her example of being a caretaker of her people instead of only looking for more wealth and power.
after both watching the series and reading the book , I am hooked, what a wonderful era to study and understand . Victoria certainly was a woman who could stand up to the male domination of this period , we should all take lessons from her
It seemed like a compilation of adoring descriptions of Victoria. It got too sweet and too predictable. It was OK, but I wouldn't recommend it.
this was a gift for my son, he loves reading and he wasvery happy with it. I was very pleased with it
